XAVIER ESCRIBÀ: Douter et de tout peindre

Douter de tout et peindre invites visitors into Xavier Escribà's singular exploration of painting as both image and object. Moving beyond the traditional flat surface, the artist transforms the canvas through cutting, folding, rolling, perforating, and layering, creating works that exist somewhere between painting and sculpture. Each piece reveals the physicality of the medium, exposing its structure while celebrating its material presence. Throughout the exhibition, Escribà investigates themes of time, memory, and transformation. His process embraces experimentation, allowing gestures of construction and deconstruction to become equally important parts of the finished work. Rather than concealing the making of the artwork, he foregrounds it, inviting viewers to consider painting as an evolving, tactile experience rather than a fixed image. Inspired by the legacy of the French Supports/Surfaces movement while developing a distinctive contemporary language of his own, Escribà challenges conventional ideas of what painting can be. His works dissolve the boundaries between two and three dimensions, encouraging a slower, more attentive encounter with color, texture, and form. Presented at ALLPA Contemporary Art in Brussels, Douter de tout et peindre offers an opportunity to engage with one of Spain's leading contemporary artists through a body of work that redefines the possibilities of the painted surface and reflects on the relationship between creation, destruction, and renewal.
